Hospice Volunteers
Volunteers are a vital part of the hospice team, filling roles that range from direct contact with patients to providing clerical support. Hospice volunteers have said their work is emotionally gratifying and meaningful. Volunteers are the heart of the organization, often connecting the gap between loved ones and professional caregivers. It takes a special person to do the work of a hospice volunteer. Their time and dedication is invaluable.
Roles of the volunteer:
Patient Support in the home, regular visits with patients for companion care, crafts, reading, etc.
Caregiver Respite and Support provides the patient's caregivers time to run errands or take a break as well encouragement.
Office Activities assisting with clerical work, publicity, computer input, etc.
Volunteer Speaker's Bureau coordinates speaker engagements at local organizations.
Spiritual Support visit patients and families and offer spiritual support.
Bereavement Care under the direction of a counselor, provides phone calls, visits, support, attend memorial services, etc.
